Tragic Day

Just like the title of the post says, Wednesday April 27th, was a day that will go down in history books as being one of the most tragic days in Alabama's history.  We watched as deadly tornado after tornado came down into our state.  I have so many pictures I need to post...from Easter, my Royal wedding day party, etc.(and I'll get to them) but I just couldn't go without remembering this day--my heart has been continually breaking for each city and family affected.  Seeing the devastation in Tuscaloosa...a place I know so well from my college days...brings tears to my eyes.  Not to mention just coming from my grandmother's house and the tornado that passed over Isaac and I and thinking...that could have been me...or I can't imagine the terror those people were going through at that moment!  Steven worked in UAB's ER that very night and saw firsthand the horror of the whole thing.
All in all, I am so thankful that the Lord is still good.  He remains faithful throughout generations and will continue to do so.  He can make good from tragedies...and we trust that He will!
Continue to pray that God will use this for HIS glory!  I have felt so helpless this week--wanting to do something, anything to help--and the Lord has gently reminded me that prayer is always the answer!

And of course, I can't write a blog without a little picture eye candy.  To break this somber mood a bit and give everyone a smile on their lips I have for you Isaac on the night of the storm.  Our trusty weatherman James Spann encouraged children to wear bike helmets for protection that night.  We took it a little too seriously...  for only five seconds I might add.

Hey it wasn't our idea little buddy...you can take it up with James!

Cleanup and baby showers

I'm finally getting around to clean up pictures after the tornado.  I still have Easter pictures to post as well.  (sigh) One thing at a time...

So, on day two after the tornado hit, Meme's yard was in for a major clean up.  The whole neighborhood was in for a major clean up in fact.  Trees were being cut to pieces and we were able to get the tree off mother's car.

Here is Isaac and I posing in front of an old oak tree in Meme's front yard.

You could hear the voices of chainsaws everywhere.  My uncle and his friend were hard at work in Meme's backyard...

Isaac wasn't quite sure if he liked the sounds or not...

Meanwhile, my mom was able to use her speaking skills to become a celebrity on the local nightly news. ;)

I told her no matter what she said she would end up sounding like a redneck. Not because she sounds like a redneck but because it's hard to say "when we heard it comin' it sounded just like a freight train" without looking like you just stepped out of your double wide. ;)

Here's the closet (or Meme's shelter as she likes to call it) that we were in when the tornado hit.  I sure didn't realize there was a big gun above my head. ;)

Here's us replaying our anxious faces.  Poor Isaac was too scared to get in the closet again...brought back bad memories for him I guess.

And yes, I know I look more like a patient at the insane asylum then a frightened girl.

The one great thing about the clean up was the fact that we were able to spend time with family that we haven't seen in a long time.  Two uncles, two aunts, and a few cousins were around the day we left to go home.  We even stopped for a preggo shot of me, my sister, and our cousin Brittney, who is due a week before Carla.

And Isaac, as always, enjoyed playing in the dirt with his cars.

His favorite part by far was spending time with my Uncle Steve...

Now onto a totally different subject.  Baby showers. :)  The day of the clean up also consisted of Carla's baby shower in Jackson.  To say we were busy would be an understatement. ;)

Carla had a great shower and left with some great things!!
Here are my two grandmothers with Carla and mom.

And last but not least I'll end with cheesy belly shots of me and Carla.

Isaac can't wait to meet his baby cousin, Owen!

And I think that's a wrap folks....
I'll be back to post from Easter.

Tootles for now. :)

Happy Easter

In 1739 Charles Wesley's beautiful words were put into a hymn.  And I think there's no other way to better explain our joy!  Praise the Lord for HE IS RISEN!

Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!

Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Lo! the Sun’s eclipse is over, Alleluia!
Lo! He sets in blood no more, Alleluia!

Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Happy Easter!!

Adoption!

Hello there!!
I'm back this morning after just downloading pictures from this past weekend so be sure to check the post after this one.

One of my best friends, Katie Compton, has decided to go through the wonderful adventure of ADOPTION with her husband and precious little 4 year old girl.  They are going through domestic adoption and hoping for a little baby boy...preferably African American or bi-racial...but open to whatever the Lord has for them.

They have created the most beautiful Tshirt for people to buy.  Not only to help out with the adoption, but also so they can see friends and people wearing them and be encouraged.

Here's the front..

(red, yellow, black, and white)

Here's the back....

If you are interested they are $20 each and come in all adult sizes, toddler sizes, and I'm pretty sure she is ordering some smaller women sizes so they will fit us a little snugger.  They will be ordering soon so let me know through a comment if you are interested or you can let Katie know at katiebcompton@gmail.com.

What better way to demonstrate our adoption in Christ!!

Our tornado experience

We traveled to Jackson, MS this weekend (Clinton, MS actually) to visit my grandmother, Meme, this past weekend.  We went to spend time with Meme and to attend my sister Carla's baby shower on Saturday.  Carla is due 7 weeks after me with her first baby, a little boy!

Here I am at 32 weeks (feeling quite large) and Carla at 25 weeks.

We took advantage of our beautiful sunny weather on Thursday and played outside in Meme's yard.

My sweet Meme and her beloved dog, Zack.  She doesn't go anywhere without this little fur ball. :)

Well, like I said we took advantage of the beautiful weather on Thursday.
And it's a good thing we did...because things would change drastically on Friday...

My mom got to Meme's on Thursday night and my sister left to stay at her in-laws.  On Friday morning Isaac woke us up bright and early as he usually does.  I was a little surprised he didn't sleep longer due to the fact that it was incredibly overcast outside and dark in his room.  But I got up with him just the same feeling quite groggy laying on the couch while he watched his Mickey Mouse.

Sometime around 9:45 a.m. that morning my mom and I wanted to do some last minute shopping for Carla's shower so we hit the streets with Isaac, leaving Meme at home, going to a few shops close to her house.  Thankfully it wasn't raining yet but very overcast.  We decided our shopping should come to an end close to 10:30 due to the weather worsening so we headed back to Meme's with my mom in the passenger's seat saying, "Meme is going to be so worried about us."
"Oh, she'll be fine!!" I say.  You see, I inherited a gene from my Dad...a specific gene that makes me unafraid when it comes to stormy weather. ;)  I've never been scared of potential tornadoes...because let's face it, I'd never been in one.

We finally arrive at Meme's, and just like my mother predicted Meme was watching the weather man, with curlers in her hair, worried sick about us and our shopping expedition.  We continue to watch the weather for five more minutes all the while the weather man predicting possible rotations near Clintion MS.
"We really need to go in my little shelter," Meme kept saying.  Her shelter is a tiny closet in her bathroom under the stairs.
I quickly reply with, "Meme, I will go in the closet when I hear something."
The weather man soon predicted hail right in Meme's neighborhood so Mom and Meme walked out to her carport to try and put the front of my car and my Mom's car inside.  About a minute after they began to move the car the tornado siren went off.
"Oh, I've heard those before," I thought, still unafraid but looking out the window to check the sky just in case.
About a minute later after the siren went off is when I heard it.  The sound that everyone says you will know.  Even like all the rednecks on the news confess, it did sound like a freight train coming towards you.  But even then, it was different.  Right when I heard it I scooped Isaac up as fast as my pregnant body would let me and we started bee-lining it down the stairs to Meme's bathroom.  As we approached the bottom of the stairs the lights began to flicker on and off and the pressure in my ears became so drastic it felt like I was 30 feet below the sea.  Meanwhile Mom and Meme are running in from outside yelling, "It's coming, It's coming!!"
If I wasn't scared before...I was then. :)
We frantically rushed into Meme's tiny closet with Mom shutting the door behind.  No sooner than we closed the door we heard loud rushes of wind, train, etc., big booming sounds from outside, the house shaking, Isaac screaming in my ear, us praying....and finally after about 30 seconds or so, silence.  If I'm being honest I will tell you that it was probably the scariest moment of my life!!

Well, to make a long story short.  We walk out of the closet and open the back yard to find this...

We look out the front yard to find this...

I was amazed that nothing had fallen on Meme's house, besides her carport and my mother's car.  I thought for sure my car had a tree on it.

Once we collected ourselves 10 minutes later...when neighbors began to venture out of their homes scared and confused we surveyed the damage.  Would you believe my car had nothing on it!!

I had to keep a close eye on Isaac as we walked around.  Power lines were down all over the streets, nails on the ground, etc.

Here's the front of Meme's house with one shutter blown off...

Here's her swing set that we enjoyed the day before.

Unfortunately, pictures don't do all of this justice.  Or should I say, my pictures don't do it justice.  But at least you get the idea.
About an hour later Carla and her husband J.B. get into the neighborhood by walking.  You couldn't drive anywhere due to power lines and trees down.  They said we should be thankful we were alive after we saw the neighborhood right beside Meme's--houses were on top of houses!

Thankfully my uncle lives in Jackson so we were able to stay with him the first night.

Here we are walking out of the neighborhood to his car.  It was pretty amazing to see how fast the town acted to clean up.  They had the army national guard, fire fighters, and even prison convicts out cutting up the trees and debris in the road.

Okay folks... so that's my tornado story. :)

I'll be back to post more pictures from the clean up and my sister's baby shower....

Best Buds at the Botanical Gardens

Hi, from the Botanical Gardens!
We've ventured here with our best buddy, Ryder, on this warm spring day.  We think it's a play date but really we are tricked into a photo session...

First order of business: the trading of vehicles.

Next up: Mommy begins the picture taking process.

 "don't smile, don't do it..."

We like to do some running around while we're here.  It releases much needed energy, Mommy says.

After running:  Picture taking begins with Ryder. He's never experienced this with Mommy.

"No, please, no, no...this is painful."

"Seriously?  another picture?"

We've finally escaped!  Quick, play with your car!

Mid Morning: The second photo opp try with Ryder.  What is he thinking!!? You NEVER smile for Mommy or she keeps taking pictures...

"ha. I'll cross my arms and look away.  that will show her."

Next:  Ryder takes a picture with his mommy.

The picture taking with mommy didn't last long.  I'd say about .52 seconds.

At least Mommy was able to get a great one of me happy and smiling.  Don't worry, I love being snuggled up to mommy's cheeks.

Oh, and mommy says...Can someone please tell Mommy to take all the marshmallows out of her mouth.  Her preggo cheeks look massive!  So does her double chin... (she said it not me)

Meanwhile:  we FINALLY get to play with our cars again

And last, but oh certainly not least, both of the Mommies put us in m.a.t.c.h.i.n.g. shirts!! Did you hear what I just said...I said MATCHING SHIRTS!!

They assured us the next time we would be in matching attire was in this setting...

Well, in that case we can handle it.  As long as you give us something to snack on...

Our mommies said sharing is key.

Alrighty, can we go now?

Despite the forced posing...I must say, we had A LOT of fun!

See you next time best bud!  Speaking of next time, let's see if the Mommies will take us to zoo...
